Service Overview

IHS CERA’s Digital Oil Field of the Future Forum is a successor service to the Digital Oil Field of the Future Multiclient Study. The Multiclient Study documented the economics and business case for the digital oil field, the technological hurdles facing its realization, and its potentially transformative impact on the established E&P business model and competitive landscape.

Service Benefits

The Forum provides its members with a proven environment for fostering these goals by

  • Engendering an effective dialogue within a focused community to promote thought leadership and insight into the digital oil field
  • Identifying enablers and solutions to the fundamental challenges that confront E&P companies in attaining "The Prize" of the digital oil field
  • Providing a framework for research into and peer-group discussion of key drivers and imperatives that influence and shape realization of the digital oil field: business, economic, operational, cultural, organizational, management, regulatory, and technological

Research Objectives

E&P firms continue to face the challenge of how to attain "The Prize" of the digital oil field—improved reservoir recovery, lower costs, and increased production rates—in the face of volatile oil prices, more technically challenging asset types, and a shrinking E&P workforce. Success, and thereby competitive advantage, depends upon achieving several key goals:

  • Refocusing the digital oil field from a tactical to a strategic level, thereby broadening and accelerating adoption
  • World-class deployment and monitoring of early implementations to ensure that E&P firms recover their investments and show early success
  • Effective integration of the complex technologies that will enable realization of the digital oil field
  • Achieving proper alignment among people, processes, organizations, and technologies
  • Resolving complex relationships among the E&P firms, major resource holders, regulatory agencies, and oilfield service companies

  • Two seats to each of the four annual Forum workshops (held in the spring and autumn, in each case in both North America and Europe)
  • Two White Papers based upon the main interests of members, one delivered after each workshop
  • Two Gray Papers (discussion documents) based upon the main interests of members, one delivered prior to each workshop
  • Two annual interview meetings (spring and autumn) with members (either on site or by teleconference)
  • Telephone and e-mail access to IHS CERA experts to address specific questions related to Forum research and to identify and discuss key topics of interest to members
