GHG Offsets and Climate Policy: Tempered Expectations for Future Offset Supply August 6, 2010
Investments in greenhouse gas offsets have established the functionality of offset programs over the past six years. However, there is a significant gap between the theoretical potential associated with proposed climate policies and what can be expected given market realities.

The EU Emission Trading System, Postrecession: A Transformed Market Outlook August 6, 2010
The 2008–09 economic recession has dramatically changed the EU Emission Trading System (ETS) market outlook. The lower emissions from both power generation and industrial ETS sectors will have long-lasting effects on the supply-demand balance of the system.

North American Power Markets, 2010-15 August 2, 2010
Although recent hot weather conditions have temporarily lifted the North American power markets, broad fundamentals remain bearish. Most regional power markets are flush with supply as a substantial amount of new generating capacity continues to come online, driven by prerecession expectations of electric demand growth. Spot natural gas prices are likely heading further down in the short term and will keep spot power prices weak.

IHS CERA European Carbon Market Tracker June 17, 2010
Prices in the Europe Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) have reached new highs for the year amid strong demand from European power utilities, bullish fossil fuel price trends and speculation that the EU may intensify its climate change policy commitments.

Gas from the Gulf: North American Supply Overhang Reduces Impact of Deepwater Drilling Moratorium June 15, 2010
The six-month US deepwater drilling moratorium in response to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill could reduce natural gas production by 0.4–0.7 billion cubic feet per day by 2012, depending on how quickly activity resumes when the moratorium is lifted. However, the moratorium is unlikely to eradicate the current North American natural gas supply overhang.

European CO2 Emissions Tracker June 11, 2010
IHS CERA has updated its CO2 Emissions Tracker which provides quantitative insights on the monthly evolution of CO2 emissions covered by the European Emissions Trading Scheme.

The American Power Act: Blueprint for a US Climate Policy? May 28, 2010
The draft bill would set economy-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction goals of 17 percent below 2005 levels by 2020 and 42 percent by 2030 and 83 percent by 2050. Despite an uncertain legislative outlook, the proposal provides an important milestone in the development of a US climate policy.
