North American Power Market Profiles September 3, 2010
IHS CERA is pleased to present our series that will profile the 20 different North American regional power markets that we analyze. Each of these profiles will cover market overview; supply and demand outlook through the next five years; major market players; transmission; market policy and structure; and retail market.

European Power Market Quarterly Briefing: Rising Gas Prices Push Up Power Prices August 31, 2010
European power prices have been unusually strong in the summer of 2010 because of high gas prices. However, we expect this effect to abate next year. The Industrial Emissions Directive passed its second reading in the European Parliament on July 7 and will lead to plant retirements in 2015 and thus projected higher power prices.

European Power Country Profiles August 6, 2010
The IHS CERA European Power country profile for Belgium has been updated. This profile provides key insight and analysis relative to the evolution of power market fundamentals, competitive dynamics, regulation, and power prices for each national market.

The EU Emission Trading System, Postrecession: A Transformed Market Outlook August 6, 2010
The 2008–09 economic recession has dramatically changed the EU Emission Trading System (ETS) market outlook. The lower emissions from both power generation and industrial ETS sectors will have long-lasting effects on the supply-demand balance of the system.

Portugal: European Power Country Profile August 6, 2010
The following country profile for Portugal was last updated in August 2010.

European Power Price Modeling Methodology August 5, 2010
This report summarizes the European Power team’s approach to power price modeling as background material to our other services. As part of this summary we examine the drivers of power markets, ranging from the concept of merit order curves, to the modeling of renewables, to recovery of fixed costs.

North American Power Markets, 2010-15 August 2, 2010
Although recent hot weather conditions have temporarily lifted the North American power markets, broad fundamentals remain bearish. Most regional power markets are flush with supply as a substantial amount of new generating capacity continues to come online, driven by prerecession expectations of electric demand growth. Spot natural gas prices are likely heading further down in the short term and will keep spot power prices weak.

Robust Power Demand and Advancement of Coal-fired Technology July 27, 2010
China’s economic growth returned to precrisis levels during the first half of 2010, and power demand followed suit. Coal-fired power plants were tasked with matching most of this demand, since northern China and the usually water-rich south were facing significant drought conditions in the winter of 2009/10. Meanwhile generation capacity investment surged on.

North American Power Market Fundamentals, 2010-15 July 26, 2010
IHS CERA has updated its North American Power data tables in which we provide a comprehensive five-year outlook for the regional power markets. This update, which extends our outlook through 2015, includes our latest expectations for regional electric demand and supply, wholesale spot power prices, fuel prices, emission allowances, and macroeconomic indicators, among other elements in ERCOT, the Midwest, the Northeast, South and SPP, and the West.
